Aged for 17 months in about 50% new French oak barrels, with the remainder being once-used and neutral, the 2019 Barrel Aged Sauvignon Blanc made by winemaker Jesse Katz is a serious wine that is a dead-ringer for a high-quality Bordeaux Blanc. Toasted baking spice, fruit caramel, grilled Meyer lemons, white mushrooms, dried flowers, and honey-coated pear are all present in the glass and spectacularly balanced. Perfect acidity, but not overwhelming amounts, connects with the rich mouthfeel and complex finish. I wouldn’t be surprised if this drinks well over the next decade with proper cellaring. 240 cases were made.
