ST. INNOCENT Pinot Noir, Shea Vineyard 2011

The Shea Vineyard is located in the Yamhill-Carlton District AVA, 35 miles southwest of Portland, Oregon. The Pinot was grown in two different blocks of shallow sedimentary soil. Block 6 faces SE and was planted in 1998 while the terrace block was planted between 2002 and 2006 and has a steep SW exposure. The wine aged for 16 months in 32% new French oak barrels and was bottled by gravity without fining. The wine begins with aromas of black truffle, blackberry, forest floor and smoke. This leads to flavors of blackberry, raspberry, cran-cherry alongside gritty tannins. This represents very Burgundian and compelling wine that is drinking beautifully from this cold vintage.
