The vines in the Sur Echalas Vineyard are some of the most densely planted in North America, with 3-foot by 3-foot spacing and 4,840 vines per acre and utilizes draft horses to till the land. The 2015 Syrah was aged in neutral oak for 8 months prior to bottling and offers a complex range of aromatics including black raspberries, green peppercorn, black olive tapenade, smoldering ash, smoked meats and umami, with underlying hints of citrus elements all taking shape. Just as impressive as the aromatics is the balance and purity of fruit on the palate, focused around black raspberries with highlights of black tea, umami, black olives and blood orange. Beautifully refined and precise, this Syrah is already extremely impressive. (Best 2017-2027) - August, 2017 (OB)
