MERRYVALE Malbec, Napa Valley 2013

The 2013 Merryvale Malbec has a gorgeous, dark hue and is an impressive follow-up to the fantastic 2012 bottling. The wine was sourced from a high elevation vineyard in the Mayacamas mountains and was aged for 22 months in 50% new French oak before bottling. The wine starts with alluring aromatics of mocha, violets, anise and creme de cassis. There are deep flavors reminiscent of blueberry puree, blackberry pie, coffee grounds and blackberry jam. Tannic and intense, this wine needs a ton of time to settle. Don't touch this for another two years. (Best 2018-2030) - May, 2016 (OB)
