The 2013 Merryvale Merlot impresses in this hot vintage. The wine was aged 20 months in 40% new French oak prior to bottling and was sourced from the Truchard and Farella vineyards. There is a light oak influence to the bottling. The wine begins with aromatics of milk chocolate, anise, sandalwood, red cherry and cherry tomato. There are flavors of eucalyptus, anise, red cherry and mocha. This is a dense and polished Merlot that shows nice range and will age beautifully for another decade. I could see this pairing brilliantly with a juicy ribeye steak. (Best 2016-2026) - May, 2016 (OB)
