BERINGER VINEYARDS Cabernet Sauvignon 'Private Reserve' 2012

Beringer has crafted an incredible wine with this new release 'Private Reserve' Cabernet that is up there with the best Cabernet bottlings from this estate that I have sampled in the past ten years. Head winemaker Laurie Hook sourced from the Steinhauer vineyard (30%) as well as the Bancroft Ranch (17%) and the St. Helena Home vineyard (17%) and some other vineyards in the Rutherford region. This impressive wine starts with aromas of anise, wild blackberry preserves, creme de cassis, and Turkish coffee. There are rich flavors reminiscent of dill, red bell pepper, anise, creme de cassis and mocha. Lovely depth and intensity to this wine that shows both viscosity and balance. The texture and fruit weight is impeccable. Try to resist this heavyhitter for at least another year.(Best 2017-2040) - May, 2016 (OB)
