Another stunner of a Syrah from Chris Peterson and the team at Avennia, the fruit comes from the famous Boushey Vineyard, specifically from the 1994 and 1996 plantings. Aged 18 months in 15% new French oak, it’s one of the best Syrah’s that Avennia has crafted. In a blind, I would probably call it a Hermitage with all of those incredible roasted meats, crushed olives, blueberries, and violet notes. This is a wine you will keep coming back to time and time again, it’s that delicious. Presenting integrated tannins and perfected acidity levels, it finishes with a gamey and bitter herb note on the mid-palate that ties everything together. Enjoy now with a long decant or over the next 10 years. Just 415 cases made. Highly recommended and editor’s choice.
