Spending 14 months in neutral French oak and incorporating 30% whole cluster, the 2020 Damsel Cellars Mourvèdre is a killer offering and a screaming value. Deep purple/inky in color, it has an incredibly decadent mouthfeel, with bold, plush, and velvety tannins. The fruit component shows great depth on entry, with fig, prune, and marionberry pie all initially sharing the dance floor. Blackberry pipe tobacco and licorice joined in mid-palate, never stepping on any toes along the way. Showing incredible depth and character, smokey bramble came on late as it headed towards the 45 second finish. Smooth, sexy, flirty, this wine is a real head turner and a great interpretation of Washington Mourvèdre. It is ready to enjoy now and should sail for another 15 years gracefully.
