My favorite of the newest Avennia releases, the 2019 Red Willow Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is aged for 20 months in 100% new French oak and is a dense, tannic, and positively scrumptious bottle of wine. Its dark purple core with a silvery rim is followed by a muscular bouquet of wet crushed stones, pencil shavings, rich tobacco leaf, and cedary herbs. This all creates a full-bodied Washington Cabernet with exquisite overall balance, ripe yet structured tannins, an indisputable characteristic of minerality, and a booming finish. Still incredibly young, so give it some time to be richly rewarded - better in 2025 and then enjoy it over the next 15 years. Only a small production of 70 cases made. Highly recommended and editor’s choice.
