The 2013 Pundit is a fantastic wine from Chateau Ste. Michelle’s Bob Bertheau, along side Michel Gassier and Philippe Cambie from the Southern Rhône Valley. The 2013 displays an opaque, deep purple color, with aromas of blackberry and blueberry reduction along with ganache, spices and fresh cut violets which soar from the glass. On the palate, this is so rich and velvety with no hard edges at all. The finish is long and plush, leaving behind dark fruits and spices to linger. Even at this young age, this Syrah is showing lots of appealing characteristics, but will be even better if allowed another year or so to flesh out. Either way, this is a fantastic value from a team of very talanted winemakers. 94% Syrah, 3%Grenache, 2% Mourvédre and 1% Viognier (co-fermented with syrah) make up the final blend.
