The 2017 Farrow Ranch Malbec is sourced from a single block, Block #17, which consists of Clone 4 and Clone 595 Malbec grafted to 1103P rootstocks that were planted back in 2002 to the volcanic soils composed of suther loam and pleasanton gravelly loam. The wine itself is massive and profound, displaying a black inky color along with expressive aromatics of blueberry jam, black cherries and fig reduction woven together with baking spices, dried loam and violets along with hints of dusty minerals and sweet toasted nuances. This possesses a full-body that is incredibly dense, layered and opulent with big polished tannins that envelop the palate. This powerful wine continues to deliver concentrated and expressive tones of blue fruits, spices and loamy notes that resonate through the wine. This is a hedonistic style of Malbec that doesn’t hold anything back, and while it is certainly delicious to drink today it should also have a long future ahead.
