The La Jota Howell Mountain Merlot is absolutaly spectacular in this vintage. This is composed predominately of Merlot with remaining parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. It begins with an impressive glass staining, inky color, with aromatics of ripe blackberries and blueberries which are woven together with dark chocolate, sweet spices, olive and tobacco. On this palate this is rich and opulent, displaying an impressive combination of depth and concentration, with layers of dark fruits, cacao and loam, which are underlined by a lovely touch of acidity keeping it all fresh and inviting. The finish is long and powerful with an explosion of flavor that lingers effortlessly. While this is already extreamly appealing, it should only become even more compelling as it evolves over the course of the next decade.
