The 2013 Cole Creek Vineyard Syrah from David Ramey is a dense, concentrated wine which certainly does not lack substance. The Syrah was fermented in tank as 75% destemmed whole berries with 25% whole Syrah clusters. As this opens it releases bold aromas of black raspberries and blueberries woven together with fresh violets, sweet spices with touches of peppery characteristics. On the palate this is full-bodied, with a round texture and layers of ripe, extracted black and blue fruits at its core. Today, this is extremely expressive, and quite accessible given some extended air contact. (Best 2017-2027) - November, 2016 (JD)
