The 2013 Far Niente is composed of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petite Verdot, which spent 17 months in French oak (77% new/23% used). As this compelling wine begins to unwind in the glass it releases seductive aromas of blackberries, crème de cassis, sweet spices, chocolate, savory herbs, graphite and earthy undertones, which are all beautifully woven together. On the palate this full-bodied Cabernet continues to impress, with its round, voluptuous texture and wonderful balance as it heads into the long supple finish. This is a fantastic wine from Far Niente and the forward style makes it very accessible now, although I expect this to be at its best with a few years of bottle age.
