NICKEL & NICKEL Cabernet Sauvignon, John C. Sullenger Vineyard 2013

The John C. Sullenger Vineyard is located in the heart of Oakville, and is the home of Nickel & Nickel. This a 30-acre vineyard and contains clone 7 Cabernet Sauvignon on 5C, 3309C, 101-14 rootstocks with soils comprised of fluvial river deposits and clay loam. The 2013 John C. Sullenger Cabernet Sauvignon is an absolutely outstanding showing. This wine, which was aged 17-months in French Oak, displays an impressive opaque, dark purple color with bold aromas and flavors of black cherries, blackberries and dark plum woven together with sweet spices, mocha, pencil shavings and earthy minerals. This is full-bodied and multi-layered with excellent depth, showing wonderful balance with it's underlying acidity keeping it light on its feet. Everything comes together beautifully on the polished finish, where this shows terrific length, with lingering notes of dark fruits and sweet spices. Even at this early stage there is already so much to like about this sensational Cabernet from Nickel & Nickel. (Best 2017-2030) - July, 2016 (JD)
