ARTESA Chardonnay 'Estate Reserve' 2013

The 2013 Artesa 'Estate Reserve' follows up the excellent 2012 bottling. Sourced from 20 year old vines from their Carneros Estate Vineyard, the wine weighs in at 14.4% alcohol but does not display much heat on the mid-palate. The wine was aged 8 months in new French oak barrels prior to bottling. Artesa has absolutely nailed this new release Chardonnay that has seen extended bottle time. On the nose the wine starts with a rich bouquet of oak, creme brulee, bananas foster and hints of tangerine blossom. There are flavors of marzipan, roasted pineapple, brioche, orange zest and vanilla cream. Not for the weary, this is exceedingly developed, structured and layered Chardonnay with intense flavors that pack a punch. (Best 2016-2023) - July, 2016 (OB)
