FOXEN Pinot Noir, Melville Vineyard 2014

Melville Vineyard sits in the heart of the Santa Rita Hills, where it is characterized by cooling fog, coastal winds, sandy (dune) soils and some calcareous terraces. The 2014 Pinot Noir is an absolutely stunning effort and one of the most compelling wines from the region. The Pinot Noir is Dijon 115 and Dijon 777 clones, and was aged in 33% new French oak for 17 months. It begins with gorgeous aromas of ripe strawberries, red cherries, orange rind and suggestions of hazelnut all coming together beautifully in the glass. This continues to impress with its lovely plush texture and a caressing mouthfeel as flavors of Asian spices, red cherry preserves, loganberries and white pepper all work their way across the palate. Overall, this is a simply stunning wine which I expect will thrive in the cellar for many years to come. (Best 2017-2030) - August, 2017 (OB)
