The 2012 Gran Reserva from Hnos. Perez Pascuez is an absolutely stunning, limited production bottling that is showing marvelously at seven years of age. A blend of 90% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), with 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine was aged for 24 months in barrels (French and American Oak), and then more than 36 months in bottle prior to being released. Aromatically quite intense, this leads with seriously good range from milk chocolate to sandalwood, with white truffle and damp earth tones that all mingle together in the glass. The texture is downright ethereal as this glides across the mid-palate. The sense of minerality is quite striking, as dark fruits collide with pipe tobacco, leather and forest floor flavors. While this is outstanding at this juncture, the Gran Reserva should go on to have an exceedingly long life in the cellar.
