Dominio del Águila is located in La Aguilera, a small village in Ribera Del Duero and founded by Jorge Monzón and Isabel Rodero. Jorge has previously worked at prestigious estates including Domaine Romanée-Conti at Vega Sicilia and now brings his experience to Dominio del Águila. The estate produces four red wines and the ‘Pícaro del Aguila’ is the entry into these fantastic wines. It consists of mainly Tempranillo, with the addition of Blanca del País, Garnacha and Bobais aged roughly 15 months in oak barrels. The 2013 is an absolutely gorgeous wine which begins with pretty aromas of red berries and plums woven together with exotic spices, herbs, minerals and black tea that combine with earthy and smoky nuances along with a syrupy character that all develop in the glass. On the palate this is medium-bodied, and silky with remarkable elegance and finesse. Shows lovely concentration, with gorgeous acidity. The 2013 simply sensational wine, which is drinking beautifully now, but can continue to age.
