The 2001 La Rioja Alta Rioja Gran Reserva ‘904’ bursts with seductive aromas of blackberry, cocoanut, leather, spices and hints of smoke. This displays wonderful balance, structure and depth with fine tannins that exhibit a beautiful inner sweetness. There is a beam of acidity that gives this lift into the long finish. This is a fantastic Gran Reserva that should drink well for many years to come. Composed of 90% Tempranillo from vines over 40 years old in the municipalities of Briñas, Labastida and Villalba, along with a touch of Graciano from the Melchorón I and II vineyards in Briones and Rodezno.
