This famed property traces back to 1615 more than 100 years before Douro became a declared region. The Roquette family assumed ownership of the property in 1981 and they worked hard to expand their vineyard holdings. The blend was aged 18 months in 85% French oak prior to bottling. This is a blend of 20-30 different varietals. The wine has aromas of black cherry, sandalwood, black olive and anise. Flavors of loganberry, crème de cassis, anise, black cherry and coffee persist and weave wonderfully. The blend is every bit outstanding. This rich and viscous wine is wonderful out of the bottle, not requiring aeration. This serves as somewhat of a stark contrast to the '11 bottling that is less accessible.
