The 2012 'Vigna Dominin' Merlot it is a complete work of art from Meroi in 2012. This absolutely captivating Merlot is the flagship wine from Meroi, and it possesses the ripeness and complexity you would expect from a warmer climate, but the acidity and freshness one could only achieve in a cooler climate, such as Italy's northerneast region of Friuli. This instantly opens with wonderful aromas of ripe blackberries and black cherries layered with violets, exotic spices, Crème de cassis, toast, grilled herbs and hints of pencil shavings. On the palate, this powerful, structured, full-bodied red impresses with is remarkable depth and concentration along with outstanding balance of ripe fruits and underlying acidity. It finishes up long and multi-dimensional with persistent layers of dark fruits and exotic spices lingering on and on. Although the 2012 shows incredible potential, it is still a bit aggressive at this early stage, and will require at least few more years of bottle age to settle down.
