Campo di Tenaglia is another impressive showing from Andrea Franchetti in this vintage. Tenaglia is the smallest of all three sites with only 0.3-hectares of Cabernet Franc which grow on 8 feet of crumbled limestone at 550 meters. As this begins to open it showcases a wonderful mineral quality, along with aromas of blackberries, blueberries, sweet spices, graphite and violets all soaring from the glass. On the palate this is beautifully structured with fine, polished tannins and wonderful concentration of red and blue fruits expanding into the long finish. This spent 8 months in new French oak barrels and 11 months in cement tanks. While this already shows tons of early appeal I expect it will continue to impress as it takes on even more character with time. (Best 2018-2028) - April, 2017 (JD)
