The 2011 Campo del Gal Amarone is composed of 70% Corvina, 20% Rondinella and 10% Molinara which were laid in plastic crates in a single layer and transported to the winery where they are left to dry for 3-4 months until reduced by 40-45% of their original weight. This process was followed by 3 years in French & Slavonian oak barrels, plus and additional 6 months in bottle. The wine itself opens with inviting aromas of dried cherries and red plums followed by worn leather, wet stones, licorice, chocolate and hints straw nuances all taking shape. On the palate this is well polished, with a fresh, juicy core leading into the supple finish. This is a lovely Amarone which is showing well right now. (Best 2017-2021) - October, 2017 (JD)
