The 2009 Riserva 'Sergio Zenato' is another beautifully made Amarone from the Zenato Family. Composed from 80 % Corvina, 10% Rondinella and 10% Oseleta which was dried for 3-4 small trays (only one layer), well-spaced out to allow good air circulation. The Riserva spends 48 months in Slavonian oak barrels follow by 1 year in bottle before being released. As far as the wine itself, it begins to open it release gorgeous aromas of sweet black cherries and raisins which merge together with chocolate, leather and a hint of fennel seed. Full-bodied and layered with a gorgeous smooth texture and concentration, backed by a core of sweet fruits which carries on through the long, persistent finish. The 2009 Riserva is a wonderful effort which is already showing so much personality but should continue to evolve for years to come. (Best 2017-2030) - January, 2016 (JD)
