This is an incredible effort by this estate. Coming from a vineyard planted 450 meters up, the wine was aged in 225 liter barrique. and 400 liter tonneaux for 24 months and an additional six months in the bottle prior to release. The nose is earthy with mushrooms and red cherry with red raspberry preserves. This has lovely intensity. The vineyard manager was noting that the growing season saw some major heat spikes which gives this wine the higher alcohol and intensity. The wine has flavors of black cherry, black truffle oil and anise. There is wonderful richness and texture to this impressive bottling. Up there with the '06 and '07 as the best non single-vineyard Riservas made from this estate. This is impossible to resist right now. (Best 2016-2026) - January, 2016 (OB)
