2012 TOP 50 WINES - Rank #44
The 2009 Piaggia Carmignano "Il Sasso" has an earthy edge with aromas of damp forest floor, minerals and wild flowers backed by chocolate and spice wrapped up in blackberry fruit. Medium to full-bodied with soft yet firm tannins and a satisfying finish. It is composed of 70% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot which were strictly hand picked and vinified in small containers in order to encourage maximum extraction of skin components. The wine was then transferred to small French wood containers for 15 months. (Best 2013-2020) - November, 2012 (JD)
