Contrada Sciaranuova is situated at an elevation of 850 meters on Mount Etna and lays on relatively new lava that has turned into thick gravel. Today the Sciaranuova is simply stunning and seems to be the most compelling of Passopisciaro’s range of Nerello Mascalese in 2012. As this open in the glass it displays gorgeous aromas of ripe raspberries and blueberries which are layered with fresh violets and hints of smoke and spices. On the palate this impresses with is lovely velvety texture, remarkable balance and layers of beautifully ripened fruit which penetrate onto the finish where they linger on and on. This will certainly be best if allowed some additional bottle age for it to gain further complexities. (Best 2018-2030) - August, 2015 (JD)
