TENUTA DELLE TERRE NERE Etna Rosso 'Feudo di Mezzo' 2013

The ‘Feudo di Mezzo’ is another fascinating wine from Tenuta delle Terre Nere in 2013. This is composed of 98% Nerello Mascalese, 2% Nerello Cappuccio from Terre Nere’s largest cru, which is situated on the Northern slope of Mount Etna and comprised of vines up to 80-years-old planted in shallow soils containing volcanic ash. The wine itself is very pretty, offering aromas of wild berries, fresh cassis, floral, licorice with hints of sweet spices and a fresh mineral character. On the palate this medium-bodied Rosso is beautifully structured with fine tannins and a wonderful silky texture. It remains balanced with lovely acidity as everything comes together on the sleek finish that grips a firm hold and lingers. While this shows plenty of appealing characteristics upon release it is sure to evolve even further with some additional bottle age. (Best 2017-2028) - July, 2015 (JD)
