Sourced from a single cru in contrada Monte Colla, this is yet another utterly fascinating wine from Frank Cornelissen in this vintage. Frank refers to this as his "Hermitage" of Etna, as it comes from vines planted in 1946 to an extremely steep and terraced vineyard, which is exposed to sun and wind and right in front of mount Etna. This 100% Nerello Mascalese begins with seductive aromas of sweet dark cherries, ripe strawberries and plums, which are woven together with hibiscus, clove spices, sweet leather, ashes, dried rose and hints of fresh turned earth. On the palate this is well structured with outstanding depth and a beautifully focused core leading up to the long finish. While this is certainly appealing now, it should also have a wonderful evolution ahead, and it will be quite intriguing to watch this beauty evolve.
