ODDERO Barolo, Bussia Vigna Mondoca 'Riserva' 2010

The 2010 Bussia Vigna Mondoca 'Riserva' Barolo is a sensational showing. While this wine typically spends 36 months in 30Hl oak barrels, as a Riserva, it spends five years in barrel. At this early stage there are still some subtle hints of the extended time in oak, however the gorgeous aromas of ripe cherries and red berries along with dried floral, licorice, minerals, exotic spices are what really stand out. On the palate this is beautifully structured with nicely polished tannins and excellent balance all the way through the long, lingering finish. Today, this is already quite appealing, but there is no doubt this will continue to evolve gracefully with time and show its best stuff with some additional bottle age. Just under 300 cases produced. (Best 2020-2034) - February, 2017 (JD)
