SALVIONI Brunello di Montalcino 2012

2017 TOP 100 WINES | Rank #28
The La Cerbaiola estate is situated in the heart of Montalcino at an altitude of 1,375 feet. It is comprised of three small vineyards, with soils consisting of chalky schist to stony marl and subtle variations in the microclimate. These characteristics are beautifully displayed in the 2012, as this wine as it possesses gorgeous minerality and vibrancy at its core. This well-structured Brunello from Giulio Salvioni is built for the long-haul, however is already offering a glimpse of what lies ahead, with its elegant profile and focused flavors of fresh red fruits, spring florals and wonderful minerality. While some of Giulio Salvioni’s wines over the past few vintages may have been a bit more accessible upon release, the young 2012 shows an austere personality and will require some signifiant time in the cellar. That being said, this has the make-up and pedigree to become very special with patience.
