2016 TOP 100 WINES | Rank #7
The 2011 Salvioni is a gorgeous showing which impresses with its remarkable elegance and purity. As this classicly made Brunello slowly begins to unwind, it releases aromas of red cherries and dark plums which are woven together with intense fresh florals along with spices, black truffle, licorice and a subtle hint of smoke. On the palate this is beautifully structured with wonderful overall balance and precision. It offers an alluring fine, silky texture which carries on through the long lingering finish. The 2011 will require some additional bottle age, but overall it is an absolutely sensational effort by Gulio Salvioni and certainly amongst the top wines from the vintage.
