The 2010 Pagliaro is another magnificent release from Giampiero Bea. It instantly opens to stunning aromas of dark cherries and dark berries are woven together with crushed violets, leather and dried spices and hints of earthy minerals all soaring from the glass. On the palate this medium-bodied red is beautifully defined and structured with firm tannins that grab a tight hold leading up to the incredibly long, chewy finish. I have always adored the wines of Paolo Bea , specifically the Pagliaro, and there is no exception in this vintage. While it generally has the track record of being quite tannic in its youth, once it softens it becomes a thing of beauty. The 2010 is a simply gorgeous expression of Sagrantino that displays fabulous potential to evolve age gracefully for many years.
