The 2015 Graacher Himmelreich Auslese #4 is a magnificent showing which offers a wonderful combination of ripeness and elegance. The vineyard of Himmelreich surrounds the site of Dompropst, and is protected from wind and frost, while the slate soils provide heat to the vines, resulting in an even, and full ripening of the grapes. The wine itself bursts open with beautiful aromas of orchard fruits, apricot, lime zest, green tea, honey blossoms and wet stones all taking shape in the glass. On the palate this is simply sublime, as it offers a gorgeous texture, with remarkable precision and concentration of flavor, as it delivers a mouthful of ripe juicy fruits, which are beautifully balanced by a core of vibrant acidity leading into the mouthwatering finish. This looks to have a long future ahead, and while its seductive charm may initially seem to be the most compelling characteristic of this wine, it is the purity, balance and precision which make this wine so special.
