The 2012 'Berncastler Doctor' Kabinett from Dr. H. Thanisch Muller Burggraef impresses with its structure and range. Having a longstanding history in the region, the Thanisch family is traced back more than 350 years. In 1636, the name was mentioned for the first time in the registers of Bernkastel-Kues. This wine is sourced from the one of the famed vineyards in Germany, and has an incredible story. The Bernkasteler Doctor spans only 8.1 acres. In the 13th century, the Archbishop of Trier was in this area of the Mosel Valley when he fell ill. After many attempts to help his condition didn’t work, he tried some Riesling from from this adjacent town's vineyard and was cured. This medium gold colored Kabinett begins with aromatics of petroleum, crushed white flowers, Pink Lady apple puree and a hint of lime. This brings flavors reminiscent of red delicious apple, peach pit, mango and candied kumquat. Exotic and rich, this wine has a seamless quality.(Best 2016-2027) - June, 2016 (OB)
