The ‘Les Beguines’ (LC17) is a simply thrilling Champagne made from Pinot Meunier, which comes from Prévost’s Two-hectare vineyard of Les Béguines in Gueux. The vineyard consists of vines planted in the 1950’a to chalky soils that sit under a mix of sand and calcareous clay, laden with sea fossils. As far as the wine itself, it begins with gorgeous aromatics of sliced pear, lemon zest, lime blossoms, honeysuckle, crushed limestone and baked sourdough all developing in the glass. On the palate this is laser focused and impeccably balanced with wonderful energy, power and a fabulous mouthfeel that persists through the beautifully refined finish. This is an absolutely stunning bottle of Champagne and while it is simply delightful to approach today, it also seems the best is still yet to come. Prévost only produces a tiny amount and the demand is extremely high, so finding it may be difficult , but it is well worth the hunt.
