The 2015 'Le Grand Pin' is all about elegance and finesse. This old vine Grenache was sourced from sandy soils in a parcel at the top of Pignan, which is literally adjoining the vines of Château Rayas. The wine itself is simply beautiful, releasing striking aromatics of raspberries, red plum, floral, lavender, spices, licorice and crushed stones which fill the glass. On the palate this just as captivating, as it displays a gorgeous, fine texture, with fantastic focus and clarity. It continues to impress as it remains beautifully balanced through the refined, silky finish. This is a totally fascinating Châteauneuf-du-Pape, however at this stage it is only shows a glimpse of its full potential, as it will demand significant time in the cellar before it hits its stride.
