The 2014 'Reine des Bois' is a fantastic showing in this vintage. This is composed of 80% Grenache along with 10% Mourvèdre, 5% Syrah, 2.5% Vaccarese, 2.5% Counoise, sourced from 60-year-old vines planted to galets roulés and red sand soils. As it begins to open it releases wonderful aromatics of black raspberries and ripe plums along with spices, violets, chocolate shavings, smoke, rosemary and a lovely underlying savory character all taking shape. On the palate this continues to impress with its remarkable round, velvety texture and fantastic overall depth and concentration. The flavors of ripe black fruits and spices continue to expand seamlessly on to the finish where they linger on. While this is already quite impressive, I expect it to evolve further over the next decade and beyond. (Best 2017-2032) - November, 2016 (JD)
