A historic property dating back to 1700, Chateau Gressier borders the better known Chateau Chasse-Spleen, and since the mid-1800’s the properties have been owned and managed as one. The 2003 vintage was characterized by very high temperatures during June and into July, which led to wonderfully ripe fruit which was harvested from mid- September and into early October. It is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot that spent 18 months in oak (40% new). The wine opens with aromas of stewed prune, anise, and blackberry with sage. There is a lovely herbal quality to this wine, with a rich mouthfeel. This leads to flavors of blackberry pie, stewed prune, coffee grounds and graphite. This is layered and rich, indicative of this warm vintage. Drinking in its sweet spot. (Best 2015-2025) - October, 2015 (OB)
