The 2012 Domaine la Soumade Rasteau is a terrific effort from the Roméro family, who has earned the reputation as one of the very best producers in the region. This blend of 80% Grenache noir, 10% Syrah and10% Mourvèdre delivers gorgeous aromas of dark plums and ripe blackberries, along with fresh lavender, spices, wild herbs, chocolate ganache and crushed stones. This displays layers of rich flavors backed by a gorgeous velvety texture as well as excellent balance and finesse all the way through the finish. This is an outstanding wine that is already a pleasure to drink, however this will only be better in a few years if you can resist. (Best 2016-2023) - September, 2014 (JD)
