The 2018 Saint-Joseph from Gonon is an absolutely spectacular showing from the legendary producer in this vintage. This is a riveting wine that begins to impress with seductive aromas of black cherries, black raspberries, violets, dried spices, pepper, wet stones with hints of black olive and licorice that all come together beautifully in the glass. On the palate this is medium+ bodied, polished and concentrated, with remarkable overall balance, giving way to a fresh, juicy core of delicious ripe dark berries and violet flavors which are framed by lovely minerality. Well-structured, focused and pure, this is a simply thrilling wine from Jean Gonon that is irresistible today, but should go on to age brilliantly over the next two decades.
