Rotenberg is a small single vineyard located on the west side of the Grand Cru Hengst in Wintzenheim which . The soil structure is composed of underlying oligocene limestone and tertiary marl. The steep slopes (30 to 40%) result in a very thin layer of topsoil and shallow limestone bedrock visible in the mid-slope. The Rotenberg is a late-ripening vineyard, which means the grapes are harvested later and can lead to the development of noble rot. The 2013 Rotenberg Pinot Gris is a fantastic showing, delivering aromas of ripe pear, citrus and white peach and are followed by flinty minerals, orange blossom, acacia florals and honeysuckle all coming together in the glass. On the palate this possesses a gorgeous rich texture with remarkable balance and precision through the finish. A stunning wine which will continue to evolve for year to come.
