The 2013 Domaine de la Grande Colline ‘Le Canon’ comes from up-and-coming winemaker in the Northern Rhòne; Hirotake Ooka, who formerly worked exclusively with Cornas legend, Thierry Allemand. This blend of Syrah and Grenache from 30-year-old vines is completely natural, the vines are untouched, no sulfur, unfined and unfiltered. There is some carbon dioxide at bottling, which results in a slight effervescence, which eventually fades away with air. It delivers pretty aromas and flavors of fresh blueberry, ripe cherries, herbs, smoke, cured meat and leather, which all come together in this smooth, balanced wine. This is accessible now and should be capable of some short-term cellaring. (Best 2015-2019) - November, 2014 (MD)
