The 2016 Château Pavie Macquin is an utterly fascinating wine in this vintage from Nicolas Thienpont. Composed of 82% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc, 2% Cabernet Sauvignon this begins to dazzle with its striking aromas of blackberries and bright cherries which are woven together with flowers, charcoal, toast, menthol and spices. On the palate this is medium to full-bodied red displays outstanding concentration, depth and finesse with a gorgeous textured mouthfeel. It continues to impress with its remarkable balance of ripe fruit and lively acidity through the graceful finish. While this is already attractive in its youth, it is ultimately an age worthy wine which will demand some cellaring. This is one of the most compelling wines from this excellent vintage.
