2014 TOP 100 WINES | Rank #10
The Steiner Hund is considered sacred ground for Austrian Riesling, however it is situated just outside of the Wachau, so they cannot technically classify it as a Smaragd. This Riesling is one of Nikolaihof's best, offering a lovely bouquet of fresh cut green apple, meyer lemon, orange zest, mixed herbs, cucumber, honey, sunflower, ginger and crushed almond. This is multi-layered with intense flavors that attack the palate. Incredibly complex and delicious. This is a age worthy Riesling and even though as a 'Reserve' this wine received additional time in bottle before its release, it still demands an additional 3-5 years in the cellar and has potential to last 30 years.
