The 2013 Poggio di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino is another sensational wine from this historic estate, situated on the south-east side of Montalcino, which is one of the finest areas for growing Sangiovese. The vineyards consists of steep slopes, with rocky soils, composed of gravel and clay and varries from 200 meters to 400 meters above sea level. The wine spends 48 months in 30 hl Slavonian oak casks and 8 months in bottle prior to release. The final result is an exquisitely made, classic style of Brunello that begins with simply gorgeous aromas of raspberries and red plums woven together with exotic spices, fresh florals and a wonderful mineral character, which beautifully reflects its terroir. It continues to impress on the palate with remarkable overall structure and finesse, showing wonderful elegance and precision through the long, pretty finish. Overall, the 2013 exudes sheer class and shows tremendous promise for a long, graceful evolution ahead.
