The 2012 'Folly' Syrah is another sensational showing in this vintage from Montes. Sourced from Colcachgua Valley and Santa Cruz, the wine was aged for 18 months in new French oak prior to bottling. This has a dark, opaque color and slowly begins to reveal intense aromatics of red cherry syrup, black tea, red bell pepper and sweet pipe tobacco. The generous mouthfeel impresses as flavors of black olive, milk chocolate, black cherry preserves and boysenberry cordial as it displays excellent range. The weight is intense, but yet well balanced as it maintains a mineral backbone. As this continues to develop with air, it becomes increasing difficult to put down.
