The 2015 ‘The Contender’ Syrah is co-fermented with a small amount (4%) of Marsanne. The result is a stunning wine with inviting savory aromatics of bacon fat, cigar box, black olive tapenade and hints of blood orange tied together with dark red fruits. This possesses a lovely textural richness, with a wonderful combination of savory and mineral characteristics unfolding with flavors of bacon fat, cigar box, smoked meats and blood orange underlined by gorgeous streaks of salinity, which all persist through the long finish. Delicious now, but expect this to evolve beautifully over the next decade. (Best 2017-2027) - August, 2017 (OB)
