Campo di Magnacosta is a 1.5-hectare parcel consisting of 100% Cabernet Franc which is situated on river gravel and silt on the valley’s bottom, where an old stream ate into a hillside. The Cabernet Franc vines were planted over 20 years ago with cuttings from a vineyard in Pomerol. Magnacosta is the most subdued of the three sites as far as power and depth, however showcases an incredible display of its terroir, as it opens with an intense mineral character of graphite and wet stones followed by aromas of blackberries, tobacco, fresh herbs and florals all taking shape. This mineral driven Cabernet Franc is medium-bodied and refined with fine tannins, which are firmly structured and grip nicely on the long mineral laced finish. This spent 8 months in new French oak barrels and 11 months in cement tanks. Overall, this is a lovely expression of Cabernet Franc from Andrea Franchetti which should continue to show well over the next decade. (Best 2018-2026) - April, 2017 (JD)
